The world's largest volcano does not reside beneath Hawaii's mountains, or in Washington state, but Yellowstone National Park. Past eruptions have darkened our continent and covered it with a blanket of ash that smothered both plant and animal life. Now the supervolcano, with its earthquakes and geysers, is monitored on a daily basis for signs of the beast reawakening.
When a new hot spring appears overnight in the park and a noted naturalist is scalded to death, Kyle Stone mounts an expedition into the Yellowstone backcountry to unravel the mystery.

A poorly written romance novel very thinly disguised as a disaster novel. The protagonist is, of course beautiful enough to be model, but she's highly anxious and neurotic because of psychological struggles with past family deaths in Yellowstone. The very area that's supposed to be her field of expertise and knowledge, upon arrival, she spends time weeping, being terrified of the dark (how do you do field work and sleep in a tent terrified of the dark,) having anxiety attacks and in wrapped in her own neuroses. There small sporadic influxes of real geologic work ongoing through this awful book, but limited science and very limited research by the author. The protagonist is fighting with people at work in work place politics. She as she does a little bit of science here and there, maybe they should fire her. The author includes a required heroic moment of this character, (she driving five miles for candy bar at two am, she never has enough clothes or any extra food with her) when she helps rescue an elderly couple from a landslide. Unlike most geologists I know she doesn't drive a four drive vehicle, but is impoverished living in a third floor condo that terrifies her "because it could collapse onto the ones below it." Excuse me? Why isn't she in a house? She was born in the the early fifties she should be able manage a house by now. Please don't tell me it's because she been through hard times, to that I say been there, done that. but you don't have someone like this becoming a top flight geologist. But wait there's more, she also has two men pursuing her and ultimately fighting over her, after all in some romance novels this seems to be a goal. No, I don't like romance novels and am upset I spent money on this thing. Finally, where did this author come up with the idea that geology field trips are some kind of wild randy summer camp? I've been on these trips and after you've been stomping through the underbrush, dodging snakes, wasps, sagebrush and cholla, you stink. If you got water at the campsite great you can wash up, maybe if you can trust the water, if not, you get to struggle on. Sleeping around does no women any good in field conditions, it lowers the men's opinion of you and can wreck your career. As a geologist her p protagonist was terrible. Pity the author didn't write a better character and do more research both volcanoes and the people who work on them. would have made the book far more enjoyable. Or rather enjoyable.Product details

Rain of Fire The Yellowstone Series Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Linda Jacobs John Pruden Books in Motion Books Reviews
I was expecting the main characters from the first book to carry over. There was some connection but for the most part it was a new cast. Spoiler - the same 2 guy, 1 girl plot. Who gets the girl? 4 stars because I still enjoyed reading it.
As a former geologist, the topic of the book was certainly of interest. Having spend quite a bit of time visiting Yellowstone and working in other parts of Wyoming, I enjoyed the descriptions that the author provided of the geologic history and the vivid detail of the horror of being caught up in volcanic activity. Thanks for highlighting the fascination with our dynamic Earth.
Enjoyed this book very much. I was rather sorry when I finished it.
Cant put it down, was allmost late for work one day.
Wonderful! I read this book after spending the most wonderful six days in Yellowstone National Park. Rain of Fire is a beautiful Love Story and you learn how dangerous the Park could be if a volcano should go off. The author makes you feel you are experiencing what the characters are feeling.
Really well written and an enjoyable read. The author knows her subject. She should, she is a geologist.
I have been to Yellowstone and she describes the park accurately. I can highly recommend this book. This is fiction.
This is the story of three geologists and their quest for answers to the puzzle that is Yellowstone, a supervolcano
and the most dangerous volcano on the North American Continent.
One of the volcanoes in Yellowstone erupts and the three go to investigate. They get into trouble and their horses are killed.
The only problem is that the geologists get too close to the eruption and one is too near pyroclastic flows. In reality he would not have survived. There is one gal and two men. There is a nice and believable interaction between the three. Overall an interesting book and easy to read.

Rain of Fire is a gripping story with a strong female protagonist, a spectacular setting, a major disaster just waiting to happen, and a sizzling love triangle.
Kyle Stone, orphaned at age six when a Yellowstone earthquake killed her parents, is now a geologist who keeps a close eye on Yellowstone’s ground tremors. As the tremors worsen and new fumaroles appear spouting steam and poisonous gas, she enlists the help of a park ranger and a volcanologist to determine whether the earth’s unrest is a minor event or portends a deadly volcanic eruption.
The author’s descriptions are vivid, her characters well-drawn. I came to feel that I was IN the park and knew the people. She also has done an excellent job of making the science both understandable and interesting.
You will come away from this book not only with a satisfied sense of having read a good story, but also with an appreciation of why Yellowstone owes its beauty to forces of nature that could devastate half a continent.
