Protecting Miss Jenna is Book 2 of the Lydia Collection written by Lisa Prysock. I have not read any other books by Ms. Prysock, but felt that this book was easily read as a standalone as it states at the beginning of the book.I liked how the author wrote the character, Wade. He was on the board of the local school administration and interviewed Jenna for the position at the local school. This book was written at a time when there was great hatred in the Kentucky area for black people and especially the educating of black people. Wade and the other on the school board offered Jenna the job as teacher, but never really told her all of the situations that resulted in the need of a new school teacher at this specific school. Due to this information being withheld, Jenna is in grave danger and Wade realizes it and takes up the responsibility of keeping watch over Jenna…hence Protecting Jenna, the title of the book! I won’t spoil the story with any more details, but recommend you read this story!
There is a great deal of Kentucky history and heritage placed within this book. It is easy to see the love that this author has for her state. She took great pride in not just writing a very interesting fictional story, but also by adding such historical aspects and tidbits that relate to the characters of her story.

There were too many incorrectly placed commas, and the word "husbandry" was used inappropriately. The storyline was enjoyable; however, it appears no one edited it very closely.
I enjoyed this story very much. Shows the perils of the times while telling an interesting coming together of the couple.
About a young school teacher living in Kentucky during the time of slaves. As a teacher in a one room school she was able to instill in the children how slavery was wrong. Romance enters the story and lots of history about that era.
Loved this book! A wonderful mix of history, love, and absolute selflessness for the ultimate greater good. Hats off to Lisa Prysock for capturing so many beautiful feelings into just one story. And a side note, as a native Louisvillian, thank you so much for a part of our history I was not truly aware of until now.
Have you ever been able to feel a character's heart? I have, I felt Jenna's heart and her desire to be married, but trusting in the Lord that He would keep his promises. At times she questioned it, but still remained steadfast. But this story was so much more than a romance, it dealt with a dark part of our American history and gave us a glimpse of those who chose to put their lives on the line. It showed me that life during those times brought about a struggle for everyone, even those who fought against change. And those who fought for change, the cost was great.
This book was about slavery and the abolitionist during the slavery days. I thoroughly enjoyed Jenna and her family. This book had so much in depth history and knowledge incorporated into the story. The author put so much into each of her characters. The pictures and bibliography are amazing. I have read over 450 books this year and this is the most in depth book I have read. I received a copy for an honest review. I would reccomend this book to everyone.
This is the second book I have read by this author. I like this one better than the other. I was excited to read something with a historical Louisville setting since we had lived there several years. I'm really wishing we had paid more attention to the historical aspects of the area while we were there. It was an enjoyable story. It amazes me to think of 1000 acres being owned by a single family. I think a post Civil War story explaining how some plantations were whittled down in size to create what we have today would be interesting.
One negative. I have to agree with another reviewer, why in the world did the author persist in using the word "husbandry" in such an odd way??!! I looked it up to see if it had a different meaning during this time period, but found nothing. -(
